Ellen Licking

Ellen is a bureau chief specializing in finance and deal-making for Elsevier Business Intelligence. Based in Palo Alto, CA, she is the senior editor responsible for content decisions related to EBI’s flagship monthly publications IN VIVO and START-UP. In addition to contributing regularly to both magazines, she also writes and edits for “The Pink Sheet”, “The Pink Sheet” DAILY, and IN VIVO Blog. She has covered the industry for over 10 years, writing frequently about biotech and pharmaceutical deal-making and strategy, as well as emerging technologies.

Ellen joined Windhover Information (acquired in 2008 by Elsevier) in November 2005. Prior to that, she worked as a freelance writer based in Massachusetts. From 1998 to 2002, Ellen was the Science Editor at BusinessWeek magazine where she authored cover stories, special reports and a regular column, Developments to Watch.

Ellen holds a BA in biochemistry from Swarthmore College, an M. Phil. in biochemistry from Cambridge University, and an MS in biochemistry from Stanford University, where she studied in the
laboratory of biochemist A. Dale Kaiser.
